The Artist: Ash

Ash is a fast-growing tree with a long relationship with people. Its tough, shock-resistant wood made it invaluable for tool handles, wheels and countless everyday objects. In Norse mythology, the great World Tree, Yggdrasil, is commonly described as an Ash, connecting different worlds through its branches and roots.

THE ART

Ash often has a pale background crossed by strong, flowing grain. Growth rings can create bold lines, sweeping curves and dramatic changes of direction, giving even a very small piece a sense of movement and vitality.
