Box grows extraordinarily slowly. Its dense evergreen foliage has made it familiar in gardens and old landscapes, but hidden within is one of the densest and finest-textured woods found in Britain. Its precision made it prized for engraving, instruments and detailed craftsmanship.
THE ART
Box is usually pale yellow to creamy gold, with exceptionally fine, even grain. Its beauty is restrained rather than dramatic: smooth, precise and remarkably consistent, allowing tiny changes in tone and growth to become part of the artwork.
