The Artist: Laburnum
For much of the year Laburnum can appear relatively understated. Then spring transforms it with extraordinary hanging cascades of golden flowers. Beautiful though it is, the tree is also poisonous, giving it a fascinating dual character and reminding us that beauty in nature deserves both admiration and respect.
THE ART
Laburnum can produce some of the most dramatic wood in the collection. Pale sapwood may sit alongside much darker heartwood, creating strong natural contrasts, while rich colour and distinctive grain can make tiny sections feel almost like miniature landscapes.
